The European University Institute Florence was created in 1972 and contributes to the development of Europe’s cultural and scientific heritage through teaching and research.

It has four departments (History and Cultural History, Political and Social Sciences, Law, Economics) and offers four-year doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in an international environment. The Institute mainly hosts young researchers from Europe for four-year doctoral studies. Its aim is to provide young doctoral or post-doctoral students with a higher university education and to promote research in areas of particular interest to Europe.
