LH AfricaThe AIT (Academia-Industry Training) Cleantech call is an opportunity for Swiss innovators to explore the Cleantech market in South Africa and other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. A tailored program will connect you to the local ecosystem of customers, experts, startups and investors.
The cleantech economy in South Africa is evolving, with substantial progress in renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, and sustainable agriculture. While there are challenges, the country’s policies and initiatives, coupled with its abundant natural resources, position it well for continued growth in the Cleantech sector.
The renewable energy sector alone is a significant contributor to the economy. According to the South African Wind Energy Association, the REIPPPP has attracted approximately USD 16 billion in investment since its inception.
The AIT programme in Cleantech will give Swiss Entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial researchers an opportunity for market access, validation, and testing in South Africa. Over the course of more than a week, the program will also make connections to a growing Swiss-South African Tech for Impact Cluster, including Industry, Startups, and researchers.
The trip is anchored around the South African Innovation Summit, which will be held from September 19 to 20, 2024, in Cape Town. At this summit, participants will have the opportunity to pitch and engage with SA entrepreneurs. Prior to leaving, they will receive training on doing business, research collaborations, and cultural differences in South Africa.
There is also an opportunity and expectation to engage with South African Cleantech startups during their visit to Switzerland later in 2024. South African and Botswana applications are opening soon.
