Established in 1969, the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC) is an inter-governmental organisation dedicated to the promotion of molecular biological research in Europe. It encourages the training and exchange of information between European researchers.

Based in Heidelberg, the EMBC is also responsible for funding the General Programme of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO).

The EMBO is an association of Europe’s leading molecular biologists. The funding that it receives from the EMBC is used to run its General Programme of short-term and long-term fellowships and to organise continuing training courses, workshops and scientific congresses in member countries.
